Texnikoi
is an organization of undergraduate students in The Ohio State University's College
of Engineering whose purpose is to recognize qualities of leadership,
integrity, and personality as exemplified by active participation and
leadership in extracurricular activities. Each year the active membership of Texnikoi selects one of the younger alumni of the College
of Engineering as a recipient of the Texnikoi
Outstanding Alumni Award. This award is based upon their achievements since
graduation, evaluated in light of the objectives of Texnikoi.
2002 Texnikoi Outstanding Alumna Award
Nancy C. Porter received a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Welding Engineering from The Ohio State
University in 1985. Nancy is Ohio
Programs Manager, Government Programs Office, Edison Welding Institute. As a student, she was a five year member of
the OSU Marching Band, Tau Beta Sigma National
Honorary Band Sorority, and the student chapter of the American Welding
Society.
Following graduation she joined Pratt & Whitney as a process
planning engineer in manufacturing operations, troubleshooting various welding
processes. She continued her studies and completed the company's two year
manufacturing engineering development program. Ms. Porter joined Komatsu
Dresser Company in 1989. She was a
design engineer and a welding engineer for this global manufacturer of road
construction equipment.
Ms. Porter returned to Columbus in 1994 to become a part of the Edison
Welding Institute. In this capacity, she
worked with sixteen national Manufacturing Extension Partnership Centers
playing a key role in the development and success of the National Excellence in
Materials Joining Initiative's JoinNet Program. She managed the JoinNet
Program, created/supervised outreach agent training, taught technical seminars,
and visited manufacturers nationwide providing direct
access to EWI's services.
Ms. Porter currently manages defense projects for the Navy Joining
Center (NJC), coordinates alignment activities for the presidents of seven Ohio
Edison Centers, works closely with the Technical Division of the Ohio Department
of Development (for EWI and the Edison Program Centers and Incubators), as well
as, serving as Recording Secretary for EWI's Board of Trustees.
Nancy Porter leads an ongoing fundraising effort for The Ohio State
Welding Engineering Program. She serves
on the External Advisory Committee for the Department of Industrial, Welding
and Systems Engineering. She is an
active board member of the OSU Welding Engineering Alumni Society and is
Immediate Past President of that organization. Nancy is also a member of TBDBITL, a life
member of the OSU Alumni Association and a seventeen year member of the
American Welding Society.
