materials

EWI believes that materials science provides the foundation for understanding and advancing welding, joining and the allied processes. That’s why we’ve spent years building expertise in ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, ceramics, composites, plastics and other materials, and why we have several associates on staff that are recognized as world leaders in materials science.

Our facilities include a state-of-the-art metallography and scanning electron microscopy lab in which most welds and joint characterizations can be made. Close collaboration with universities and national laboratories allows us to perform higher-end characterizations.

We can help you with the selection of the appropriate joining processes, process parameters and material combinations to meet your specific application requirements. And we can leverage our materials expertise to perform failure analysis of existing welds and design optimal engineering solutions.
