Since our founding in 1984 as the Edison Welding Institute, EWI
has focused on innovative joining technologies for many types of companies and branches of government.


As North America's foremost institute for the exploration of practical welding, bonding and joining processes in manufacturing, our team of executives and recognized engineers are dedicated to advancing and deploying new materials joining technologies to businesses around the world.

Our non-profit organization is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio and employs approximately 150 people. From this same location, we also operate the Navy Joining Center (NJC), a Navy Mantech Center of Excellence.

EWI exists to be the leading provider of high impact consulting and R&D services in materials joining and fabrication technologies.
