Student employment opportunities

Each year at EWI, we seek to attract and develop promising engineering talent to our workforce. Currently, EWI offers both a College Internship program and a Graduate Fellowship program.

college INTERNSHIPS

EWI provides a rich learning enviornment for undergraduate and graduate students seeking opportunity for practical application of metallurgical, welding, mechanical, industrial engineering and allied fields. Internships in non-engineering, general business fields may also be available.

  • Eligibility: Must be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in an accredited university or college
  • Application Process: Open internship positions are posted on the Jobs page of the EWI web site. Applications are accepted online
  • Selection Process: Eligible applicants compete through an interview process for open internships
  • Benefits: EWI student interns enjoy the following benefits:
    • Paid or unpaid opportunity to apply academic knowledge to commercial or government materials-joining projects. Maximum of 20 hours per week
    • Opportunity to be mentored by highly regarded individuals with expertise in an array of materials joining engineering or other business competencies
    • Real-world employment experience
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio -- on the Technology and Innovation Campus of The Ohio State University


graduate student fellowships

EWI has teamed with The Ohio State University to fund the EWI Graduate Student Fellowship. This exciting opportunity allows engineers with a B.S. or an M.S. degree to pursue an advanced engineering degree while performing industrial contract research and gaining engineering experience and knowledge.

  • Eligibility: The Fellowship is awarded to a graduate student(s) pursuing an advanced degree in engineering at The Ohio State University
  • Application Process: The fellowship is posted on the Jobs page of the EWI web site when applicants are being sought for the position
  • Selection Process: Eligible applicants compete through an interview process
  • Benefits: EWI graduate fellows enjoy the following benefits:
    • Paid opportunity to apply academic knowledge to commercial or government materials-joining projects
    • Benefits package, including tuition reimbursement equal to in-state tuition rate
    • Opportunity to be mentored by highly regarded individuals with expertise in an array of materials joining engineering or other business competencies
    • Real-world employment experience
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio -- on the Technology and Innovation Campus of The Ohio State University

EWI graduate fellows work towards a higher degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) at OSU while being employed at EWI. Selected candidates will perform industrial contract research at EWI, attend required classes at OSU and carry out thesis-based research projects.

Appointments are two years for graduate fellows seeking an M.S. degree and four years for graduate fellows seeking a Ph.D., with an optional extension at EWI’s discretion of not more than one year.
