NJC & the Navy Mantech program

The Navy ManTech Program is managed in the Office of Naval Research (ONR) to develop enabling manufacturing technology and transition this technology for the production and sustainment of Navy weapon systems. Reducing the acquisition cost of current and future platforms is a critical goal of the Navy ManTech Program.

The Navy ManTech Program is primarily executed through Centers of Excellence (COEs) such as the Navy Joining Center. These COE’s are the focal points for the development and transition of new manufacturing processes and equipment. The COE’s provide a cooperative environment between industry, academia, and the Naval Research Enterprise.

The objective of the Navy ManTech Program is to significantly improve the affordability and the mission capability of Navy systems through manufacturing technology developments that address the entire life-cycle of weapon systems.

This objectives includes:

  • The timely transition of technology to industry and to the Fleet.
  • Developing advanced manufacturing processes and equipment that reduce the risk and cycle time associated with the transition from research and development (R&D) to full-scale production.
  • Extending the life of current Navy systems by providing manufacturing technologies to support the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of these systems.
  • Strengthening the industrial base through dissemination of the results of ManTech projects.
