Meet the EWI Arc Welding Team – Randy Dull

July 9, 2012

This installment of “Meet the Team” features Randy Dull.  Contrary to his name, he is a quite personable fellow that is very knowledgeable with all things arc welding.  Please don’t hesitate to contact Randy if you have any questions or interests related to EWI or Arc Welding. You can reach him at 614.688.5095 or [email protected].

Technical Expertise

Randy Dull has expertise in most arc welding processes, including gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), submerged arc welding (SAW), and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). He has experience with low-current GTAW and PAW, and precision GMAW. Materials joined include carbon steels, coated steels, stainless steels, cast iron, aluminum, titanium, nickel, copper, precious metals, and dissimilar combinations. He has additional expertise in arc welding automation, weld tooling, off-line robotic programming, distortion control, and flame straightening. He has developed and taught training courses on welding-related subjects including PAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, welding of nickel alloys, welding of high-strength steels, welding of light metals, welding of titanium, robotic arc welding, arc welding optimization, control of distortion, and welding inspection. He has served as an expert witness.

Background and Project Experience

Randy joined EWI in 1994. Project experience includes control of distortion on welded thin-section panels, tube mill welding, coil joining, fusing ends of stranded copper wires, high-speed automated GMAW on oil-coated carbon steel sheets, joining ductile iron castings, and welding of coated sheet steels. Prior to joining EWI, he worked at Danninger Medical Technology as a product engineer, and as supervisor of the machine shop and weld shop where he designed and fabricated machining jigs and fixtures, welding fixtures, and assembly fixtures. He worked at Funk Fine Cast before joining Danninger and performed weld repair and machining on investment castings and welded stainless steel assemblies.
